INTRO TO HANDGUNS

CLASS FEE: *$125.00

(There is a 10% discount to those who have taken their LTC class with us or who are enrolled in an upcoming LTC class with us.)

CLASS LENGTH: 8 HOURS

ROUND COUNT: (Minimum of 200 rounds of ammo)

This is a basic class designed for someone who has had little or no experience with a firearm. It is an excellent opportunity to learn from the ground up from NRA Certified Pistol instructors. It also offers a great way to prepare you for the proficiency portion of a License to Carry (“LTC”) class if you should decide to take one.

As a new shooter, there are many questions you will be faced with such as “What will I use this for, i.e. home defense or personal defense?” to “Do I want a revolver or semi-automatic?” In this class we will help you make an informed decision on choosing a handgun and the basic equipment needed.

Loading/Unloading
Sight Alignment/Sight Picture
Trigger Prep/Trigger Press
First shots

The minimum age for this class is 21 years old. However, persons 18-20 years old may enroll but MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

WORKING firearm.
Eye protection (impact resistant, clear or tinted).
Ear protection (electronic preferred).
Hat for protection from the sun and hot brass (Ladies it is advisable to have a long sleeve shirt with a high collar as well to protect against hot brass.)
CLOSED TOE shoes or boots (no sandals).
Water, sunscreen, insect repellent (this IS Texas).

NICE EQUIPMENT TO HAVE:

Spare firearm (if possible)
Knee and elbow pads
Range bag
Cleaning kit and lubrication
Pen and small notebook
Gloves, rain gear, and weather appropriate clothing (Texas Weather)

CARRYING WITH CONFIDENCE

This is an intermediate handgun class designed for those who have completed our “Intro to Handguns” class (or another accredited equivalent) and who want to proceed in the next step of handgun training. This is also a class that LTC (CHL) holders will find beneficial, designed to be the next stop after you have obtained your LTC.

Drawing from a Holster
Reloads: Slide Lock/Tactical
Malfunctions
Handgun dynamics
WEAPON hand only shooting
SUPPORT hand only shooting

The minimum age for this class is 21 years old. However, persons 18-20 years old may enroll but MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

WORKING firearm.
Eye protection (impact resistant, clear or tinted).
Ear protection (electronic preferred).
Sturdy belt and holster that fits your firearm (a holster that is made specifically for the make and model of your handgun)
2 pistol mag carriers that fit your belt.
At least 4 magazines.
Ammo (American made mandatory) amount as required by the class curriculum. (No steel case, steel core (green tip), armor piercing, tracer, incendiary, aluminum case, or communist block ammunition. Only brass cased, copper jacketed, American made, good quality ammo can be used at Red River West.)
Hat for protection from the sun and hot brass (Ladies it is advisable to have a long sleeve shirt with a high collar as well to protect against hot brass.)

HOLSTER RESTRICTIONS

SERPA HOLSTERS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED AT RED RIVER WEST. All holsters will be inspected to ensure they are in compliance with our guidelines and safe for use. This includes any holster considered "serpaesque" or having the same type of release that the Serpa holsters have.

AMMO RESTRICTIONS AND INSPECTION POLICY

DUE TO RECENT INCIDENTS, EFFECTIVE AS OF AUGUST 1, 2016 ONLY AMMUNITION MANUFACTURED BY THE FOLLOWING COMPANIES WILL BE ALLOWED AT RED RIVER WEST:

Winchester;
Remington;
Federal;
Lawman;
Hornady; and
Black Hills.

Additionally, the current restrictions remain in place:

NO steel case, steel core, armor piercing (M855, green tip, SS109, Win Q3131, Win 3131A, tungsten penetrator, black tip, etc.), xm193, tracer, incendiary, aluminum case, or communist block ammo is allowed.

For long range classes, match ammunition is required; for example, Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills Match.

Red River West representatives will inspect all ammo brought for classes and personal use at our facility. This is to ensure that all ammo is safe for use here and complies with our Ammo Restrictions policy. If ammo is found that does not comply, you will forfeit your time or class at the range and will be asked to leave. Again, this is for the safety of all persons at the range as well as for protection of our property and targetry. If you have any questions, please contact us, directly.

Please note that only Red River West can approve or suggest ammo, not an instructor. However, check the instructor's website to ensure you have the required minimum round count.

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE POLICIES.
