CLASS LENGTH: 8 HOURS

ROUND COUNT: (Minimum of 300 rounds of ammo)

This is an advanced handgun class designed for those who have completed our “Handgun I” class (or another accredited equivalent) and who want to proceed in the next step of handgun training. This is a class that LTC (CHL) holders may find beneficial but it goes beyond that. Defensive Handgun II continues to build your skill with increased scenario or "situational" training.

Review of Intro to Handguns and Carry On Material
Shooting Positions: Standing/Kneeling/Prone/Supine
Expansion on Cover vs Concealment
Expansion on Shooting through/around Barricades
Expansion on WEAPON hand only handgun manipulation
Expansion on SUPPORT hand only handgun manipulation
Expansion on Shooting on the move
Situational Awareness

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

WORKING firearm.
Eye protection (impact resistant, clear or tinted).
Ear protection (electronic preferred).
Sturdy belt and holster that fits your firearm (a holster that is made specifically for the make and model of your handgun)
2 pistol mag carriers that fit your belt.
At least 4 magazines.
Ammo (American made mandatory) amount as required by the class curriculum. (No steel case, steel core (green tip), armor piercing, tracer, incendiary, aluminum case, or communist block ammunition. Only brass cased, copper jacketed, American made, good quality ammo can be used at Red River West.)
Hat for protection from the sun and hot brass (Ladies it is advisable to have a long sleeve shirt with a high collar as well to protect against hot brass.)
CLOSED TOE shoes or boots (no sandals).
Water, sunscreen, insect repellent (this IS Texas).

NICE EQUIPMENT TO HAVE:

Spare firearm (if possible)
Knee and elbow pads
Range bag
Cleaning kit and lubrication
Pen and small notebook
Gloves, rain gear, and weather appropriate clothing (Texas Weather)

HOLSTER RESTRICTIONS

SERPA HOLSTERS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED AT RED RIVER WEST. All holsters will be inspected to ensure they are in compliance with our guidelines and safe for use. This includes any holster considered "serpaesque" or having the same type of release that the Serpa holsters have.

REVISED AMMO RESTRICTIONS AND INSPECTION POLICY

DUE TO RECENT INCIDENTS, EFFECTIVE AS OF AUGUST 1, 2016 ONLY AMMUNITION MANUFACTURED BY THE FOLLOWING COMPANIES WILL BE ALLOWED AT RED RIVER WEST:

Winchester;
Remington;
Federal;
Lawman;
Hornady; and
Black Hills.

Additionally, the current restrictions remain in place:

NO steel case, steel core, armor piercing (M855, green tip, SS109, Win Q3131, Win 3131A, tungsten penetrator, black tip, etc.), xm193, tracer, incendiary, aluminum case, or communist block ammo is allowed.

For long range classes, match ammunition is required; for example, Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills Match.

Red River West representatives will inspect all ammo brought for classes and personal use at our facility. This is to ensure that all ammo is safe for use here and complies with our Ammo Restrictions policy. If ammo is found that does not comply, you will forfeit your time or class at the range and will be asked to leave. Again, this is for the safety of all persons at the range as well as for protection of our property and targetry. If you have any questions, please contact us, directly.

Please note that only Red River West can approve or suggest ammo, not an instructor. However, check the instructor's website to ensure you have the required minimum round count.

This is a class that LTC (CHL) holders may find beneficial but it goes beyond that. Defensive Handgun I introduces you to scenario or "situational" training.This class builds on the training provided in our Carry On class.
